Q: How do we get to Byron Bay?
You can get to Byron Bay via car, flights or buses.
Byron Bay is situated on the coast in Northern NSW, a two hour drive south of Brisbane (200km approx.) or a nine hour drive north of Sydney (800km approx.) along the Pacific Highway.
Flights arrive at Ballina, the Gold Coast and Brisbane airports and shuttle bus services are available to Byron Bay. Contact the Byron Visitor’s Centre for shuttle bus services.
Buses arrive and depart from the CBD of Byron Bay. Contact the Byron Visitor’s Centre directly for timetable and company details.

Q: How far is Wategos Beach from the town centre?
Wategos Beach is 3km from the Byron Bay CBD. By car it is a five minute drive into town, but be aware you may need to pay for parking. There is parking in the main streets and behind the shops in the CBD, in the side streets and along the beach front, but note the time limits (usually one, two or four hours). While there is some free parking, be aware of the nearby parking signs and be prepared to pay up to $2 per hour.
A taxi service costs $15 from Wategos Beach to the CBD.
If you want to get to town under your own steam it’s a 30 minute walk along the beach or road, but you’ll find two outstanding cafes along the way. The Pass Café and the Byron Beach Café both have amazing views.
Cycling is also an option and bikes can be hired from several shops in town and chained to a street post when used. If you’re more adventurous you can easily get to town by sea on a kayak or stand up paddle board, although there is nowhere to secure these at the other end.
Q: What times are check in and check out?
Check in is at 2pm and check out at 10am. We ask that guests strictly adhere to these times.
Q: What payment methods do you accept?
Payment is by direct debit, cheque, cash or Pay Pal can be arranged.
Q: How far is the beach?
Wategos Beach is only a few minutes’ walk down the hill via the adjacent nature reserve- literally 100 meters from the Seahaven property. Wategos has safe swimming waters and due to the tropical climate it’s possible to swim all year round.
Also good for swimming are nearby (just walk over the headland) The Pass, Clarkes and Main Beaches. These beaches are also good for board riding and we supply a Malibu and kickboards free of charge for both adults and children. You can see the famous Pass surf break from the property, but it has to be said that when surf’s up, you’ll find some of the best Malibu rides around at Wategos.
Other known nearby surf spots include The Wreck, Tallows, Cosy Corner, Broken Head and Lennox Head. Check out Coastal Watch for the current swell conditions.
Q: Do you allow children?
Yes. Children are always welcome.
Q: Do I need to bring beach towels?
No. Good quality beach towels are provided.
Q: Are pets allowed?
No.
Q: What is there to do in Wategos Beach?
Your Byron Bay accommodation is close to the entrance of the lighthouse walk, so you can take the walking trail leading through the rainforest up to the historic Cape Byron Lighthouse and Australia’s most easterly point. You can enjoy the panoramic views at dawn or dusk, spot wildlife or see the whales at play. The lighthouse has a coffee shop in the Keepers Cottage and a tourist gift shop.
Heading in the opposite direction (to the left of the beach), you’ll find a walking path over the headland leading to The Pass, Clarkes Beach and Byron Bay CBD, with The Pass Café and the Byron Beach Café to tempt you along the way.
There are no shops or bars in Wategos Beach and only one restaurant, ‘Raes on Wategos’.
We recommend hiring a kayak or going on a kayak paddle tour from Clarkes Beach to Wategos and Little Wategos Beaches to see dolphins, turtles and in winter, whales close up. Also available are diving or snorkelling tours to Julian Rocks. Information is available through the dive shop in the CBD.

Q: What can I do in Byron Bay?
Byron is a tourist haven, with countless things to do. The best place to start is to go to the Byron Visitor’s Centre in town, check the local papers and visitor’s guides. We also provide you with a list of recommended providers, restaurants, cafes and activities when your deposit is paid.
Tantalise your senses with: Yoga, massage, meditation, lifestyle courses, spa treatments, gyms, restaurants, cafes, bars, hotels, good coffee, shopping, boutiques, arts and crafts, art galleries, entertainment, music, performances, festivals, local markets, growers markets, films, theatre, car hire, bike hire, kayak hire, surf lessons, bus trips to Nimbin or you can lie on the beach and do nothing.
Unforgettable views
Enjoy spectacular views from your private deck over the beach and out to Julian Rocks in the Cape Byron Marine Park. Sip slowly on a glass of wine with your al fresco dinner, as you watch the colours change at sunset and the distant mountains turn shades of purple. Be the first to see the sun rise in the east or wander down to the beach for the moon rise. Either way, you’ll leave with memories that last a lifetime.
Do nothing or everything
The choices are endless with the beach only a short few minutes’ walk through the adjacent nature reserve. Feel time stand still as you spend your days in the water swimming, surfing, body boarding or snorkelling. Or you can take a relaxing stroll along the beach, laze in the sunshine or settle in with a good book.
Peaceful location yet only 5 minutes to Byron Bay
It’s only five minutes by car or a leisurely walk along the beach into the township of Byron Bay. Go shopping at the many boutiques, enjoy a luscious meal at a restaurant or a coffee in a cosy café, visit the markets or catch some music, a performance or a film. If you’re feeling adventurous, you can take a leisurely drive through the hinterland to the Crystal Castle, Bangalow, Minyon Falls in Nightcap National Park, Broken Head, Brunswick Heads and the surrounding areas.
